Goal Setting for an Epic 2017

Happy New Year environmental enthusiasts of the world!


I’m excited for 2017. I know lots of people think that 2016 was a crap year. I get it. A lot of terrible events took place, Trump as elected president, and a bunch of top notch celebrities passed away. Despite all of these downsides, I had a pretty epic year. I graduated from graduate school with a degree in Environmental Science, I landed my first environmental job, I adopted some fur babies, my boo and I bought our first place, I started this little blog, and global CO2 emissions stabilized for the third year in a row! Wow. that’s a pretty great year in my book.img_4563

So let’s talk about how to make 2017 epic. I am a big time goal setter. I’m not so much into resolutions. I think they are hard to keep and are usually framed in a negative fashion (give up sugar, lose weight, drink less alcohol, blah blah blah). Try to set positive, short term goals that you can reach and then set new ones.


Some of my goals for 2017 are:

  1. Blog More! I really like ranting about sustainable lifestyle tips and I feel happy when I do it. Hence, I need to do it more! Also, I hope that it inspires some of you to try to live more sustainably as it inspires me to be accountable as well. Goal: blog 3x a week.
  2. Eat more plant based foods. I am a vegetarian, not vegan, so this shouldn’t be too tough, but I want to try to limit animal products in more of my meals. Goal: eat 3 meals a week completely vegan.
  3. Reduce food waste. Boring right? But it’s so important! 1/3 of food is wasted and food production is one of the leading contributors to climate change. To do my little part, in my household we are going to try to drastically reduce food waste and become more conscious food consumers. Goal: Limit food waste.
  4. Become a morning person? Is this even possible? I would love to be a morning person who conquers the day right away, but the truth is that I have such a good relationship with my bed that it’s hard for me to leave to earlier than I have to. This year though, I’m going to attempt to become the jolly morning person that I envy by exercising before work. CRAZY LADY, right? Goal: Exercise 2x a week in the morning. Okay, now it’s write in stone, or on the internet, I have to hold myself to it.

What are your goals for 2017? Write them down and then come back to them in a couple of weeks. See how you are doing and then reevaluate them to make sure you meet your goals. Set yourself up for success and you will be successful. Wow. Inspirational Ida. Now go conquer the world!
