I know it’s been a long time. I can make excuses. I have a busy job. I have two cats. I have boyfriend who needs reminding to make me dinner. I’m an aspiring crossfit athlete. But you know what. I still have all these ideas in my head about reducing my carbon footprint and trying to leave the world a little better off. So I’m starting again. Here it goes.
I was recently at a conference for work in Tanzania and then took a week vacation with my lovely, dinner providing beau. I know flying is the worst! It releases literally tons of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere. According to my ticket, I personally contributed to about 1.5 tons of CO2 emissions. Sad. Scratch that. Angry. No. Disappointed. Hmm… What do I do?
I love to travel. But it comes at such an environmental cost. Also, I work in the environmental field. So how can I practice what I preach, if I continue to travel left, right, and center even if it is for a work event.
Carbon credits. That’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to buy carbon credits to offset some of my CO2 emissions. I have chosen to support Plan Vivo. It’s an organization that fairly trades carbon credits and supports poverty alleviation and ecosystem conservation in local communities. There are also a lot of other organizations form which you can buy carbon credits. A quick google search should put you in the right direction. Here is a list of organizations that sell Plan Vivo certificates.
Welcome to my personal journey of trying to reduce my emissions one day at a time.
